MMUF PhD Nick Jones Wins Katherine Singer Kovacks Prize

MMUF PhD Nick Jones has been awarded the Modern Language Association's Katherine Singer Kovacks prize for his monograph Staging 'Habla de Negros': Radical Performances of the African Diaspora in Early Modern Spain. The prize is presented annually for an outstanding book published in English or Spanish in the field of Latin American and Spanish literatures and cultures. "With authoritative yet delightful prose, Jones remedies the neglect and oversimplification of representations of people of color in early modern Spanish literature," the award committee wrote of the monograph. Nick, who was selected as an MMUF fellow at Haverford College, earned a PhD in Spanish literature from New York University. He is currently an assistant professor of Spanish at Bucknell University.
