MMUF fellow Blythe George, the recent recipient of a PhD in sociology and social policy from Harvard University, was profiled in June by the Harvard Gazette. Dr. George, who was selected as a fellow at Dartmouth College, is the first member of northern California's Yurok tribe ever to earn a PhD from Harvard. Now a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley, she is revising her dissertation -- a study of poverty, unemployment and crime on the Yurok and Hoopa reservations -- as a book that she hopes will have special resonance for Native American college students in search of narratives that reflect their experiences of economic and cultural struggle.
