In conjunction with the publication of her new book, Looking for Lorraine: The Radiant and Radical Life of Lorraine Hansberry, MMUF PhD Imani Perry recently wrote about Hansberry's deep friendship with her slightly older literary peer, James Baldwin, for BuzzFeed News. Perry's piece explores how the politics of the late '50s -- including the sexual politics of queerness -- informed Hansberry and Baldwin's friendship at a moment when they were achieving fame as both artists and political spokespeople. Professor Perry, who is the Hughes-Rogers Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University, also spoke to the Chicago Tribune recently about Hansberry (a native daughter of the city). Looking for Lorraine has also been recently reviewed in Slate. Our warm congratulations to Professor Perry!
